Lakers vs. Celtics on Genesis is an update of the game of the same name for PCs. It features the same perspective, same action-oriented gameplay with an emphasis on offense, and the same game modes: exhibition games and the playoff tournament mode.

It features ten NBA teams from the '89-'90 season. Compared to the PC version, it also adds more signature moves, different home- and away-jerseys, animated coaches, TV-style scenes from other games in the halftime show, player portraits for the starting five, voice samples for the referee and counts the number of personal fouls a players has committed, making it possible for them to foul out.
